Story Behind OOSIK
— “the Arctic Oosik, nature’s original survival tool."
•The Indigenous peoples of Alaska traditionally used the Oosik to create tools and weapons. Larger Oosiks were sometimes fashioned into clubs or sharpened into picks. In 2007, I deployed to Afghanistan with a team from Alaska, serving as Military Advisors—Embedded Training Teams (ETTs)—assigned to support the Afghan National Police. We referred to ourselves as “Team OOSIK,” a name that reflected both our camaraderie and regional pride.
